Congregational Mass Settings
10.00am Saturday 20 August St John's Church, 102 Carthage Street, Tamworth
This workshop, designed for music leaders, cantors and people in the pew, will introduce participants to both the cantor and people's parts of two congregational Mass settings by Australian composers.
Mass of St Francis by Melbourne-based composer, Paul Taylor, is one of the settings composed for the new revised English translation of the Roman Missal being implemented in 2011. This setting, along with 5 others, was recommended by the National Liturgical Music Board on behalf of the Australian Catholic Bishop's conference. It has downloadable music files for inclusion in serivce sheets and the full music version features a very accessible keyboard accompaniment and includes guitar chords.
Familiar to some and new to others, Christ Church Mass written by Philip Mathias, formerly of Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle, will be the second setting looked at during the course of the day. It is featured in the widely-used Together in Song hymnal.
In addition to these two Mass/Eucharistic settings, the popular The Lord is my Shepherd by Howard Goodall, the theme music from the BBC series The Vicar of Dibley will also feature as part of the workshop.
Details of where to obtain copies of the full-music versions will be provided along with a workshop book containing the people's parts.
The workshop will be led by David Russell, Artistic Director for the Catholic Education Office, Diocese of Parramatta.
Participants are invited to stay over and join the Parish choir for their Sunday morning Eucharist at 8.30am. Some biletting is available through the Parish.
Cost: $20 (members) $25 (non-members)
